The Library Today
Since completing our latest library expansion in 2000, Southwest Harbor Public Library’s circulation has grown to more than 66,000 annually. We offer public computer stations, wireless access, and numerous programs. The building is used extensively by community groups.
The library houses local and state historical documents such as books, records, and oral history recordings. Our Sawtelle Files collection of documents records much of the family genealogy of Southwest Harbor and nearby towns.
Digital Archive is a searchable online database containing thousands of historical photographs, documents, maps, and research materials related to Mount Desert Island.
