The VIA’s Village Green Committee, first chaired by George B. Dorr, decided to widen the sidewalk along Main Street to provide the best visibility of the clock from the street, rather than placing it in the center of the green. It was installed where you see it today.
With many of its earlier responsibilities taken over by the Town of Bar Harbor, the VIA today focuses on its in-town parks, Bar Harbor Shore Path, and ensuring village aesthetics are upheld to the highest standards.
