Preserving History
Following the the Fisher grandchildren's move from living in from Blue Hill, ownership of Jonathan Fisher's house was transferred to a local non-profit foundation, the Jonathan Fisher Memorial, which opened the house to the public.
The unique plank-frame design of the house, which combines sheathing and stud functions in the form of thick boards that support the structure, is both a rarity among historic houses and a liability in terms of water damage. Structural assessments have set the stage for a major preservation project to keep the Fisher House standing as a vital Blue Hill landmark for another 200 years.
In addition to being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Jonathan Fisher House is an Affiliate Member of Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
