Sylvia Torti was inaugurated as President in October of 2024. Torti formerly served as Dean of the Honors College at University of Utah and the director of University of Utah’s Bonderman Field Station, a remote research facility on the Dolores River. As Dean and Director, she was dedicated to increasing the diversity of the college, bringing in new voices and advocating for the liberal arts college she headed within the wider University of Utah research institution. She has published several scientific research papers and two novels, and holds a PhD from the University of Utah School of Biological Sciences along with a BA from Earlham College. Her career spans science, research, outreach, administration and creative writing, making her a perfect candidate for an interdisciplinary and experiential college like COA.
