In 1997, COA’s 25th year, the college received the Down East Environmental Award By the Down East Magazine. The award, created in 1979, acknowledges institutions and people who protect Maine’s natural resources and implement systems for more environmentally conscious consumption of energy, water and other materials. Receiving the award was an honor for the college, and highlights the way that COA has always held an environmentally conscious attitude at the heart of its methodology.
