From collection College of the Atlantic College of the Atlantic Timeline List (Timeline #1)

The former Acadia National Park headquarters building was moved to COA’s campus in 1996 in order to house the George B. Dorr Natural History Museum. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place in the year 2000, after years of hard work to transform the headquarters into a learning space. Named after George Dorr, one of the crucial founders of Acadia National Park, the Natural History museum acts as a teaching tool for students and community members alike. The museum's exhibits are designed by COA students and include displays such as dioramas, taxidermy specimens and even a tide pool, which teach visitors about the vibrant natural life of Acadia and the surrounding areas.
The building was renovated after relocation to provide a space for tactile and exhibitory learning. Curious? Look through our photos of the relocation - they are pretty unbelievable!
