From collection College of the Atlantic College of the Atlantic Timeline List (Timeline #1)

The Blair Tyson Dormitory (often simply called B/T), began construction in 1994 and concluded in August of 1995. The new dorm was named after Mrs. Elizabeth Blair and Mr. Charles and Mrs. Barbara Tyson, who all acted as long-time supporters of COA. Blair was especially instrumental in the journey to recover after the Kaelber fire, and the Tysons were benefactors of the college for more than 20 years. Designed by Roc Caviano, a former instructor at the college, the dormitory has an unconventional layout. The two sections of the dormitory are made up out of separate household units, maintaining a small community feeling while allowing for confluence and activity in the main courtyard space. The dorm was designed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind, with low flow plumbing and efficient lighting. The Blair Tyson Dormitory was the first student housing building that COA ever built, and the unique qualities of the housing ‘village’ show a consideration of human ecology, environment and community values in the building endeavor. Today, B/T remains one of the main campus centers of student life and activity.
