BAR HARBOR AS SEEN FROM BAR ISLAND
In Memoriam
We have here to record the passing of Dr. George E. Dow
of Portland, president of the Maine Dental Society in 1906.
He died of pneumonia at his residence on State Street,
Jan. 17, 1921.
Dr. Dow was born Sept. 13, 1857. He began the practice
of his chosen profession in 1878 with Doctors Bacon and
Kimball in Portland. Remaining with them until he
mastered the principles of dentistry, he bought out the
practice of Drs. Heald and Dore. He carried on a practice
in Portland for about six months and then moved to Cornish
where he remained for one year. At the end of the year
Dr. Dow decided to come back to Portland and began to
practice in Dow's Block. Having demonstrated his ability
he established a very successful practice and continued in
the same location until 1911 when he was obliged to give
up his work on account of a severe eye trouble. He went
into business with the Lamson Print and continued there
until the war. At the beginning of the war he took over
the practice of Dr. C. B. Leighton SO as to do his bit in re-
leasing a younger man for the service.
Dr. Dow was a charming companion, ready to help the
young dentist, a great organizer in society work, associated
with many charities and clubs, and greatly interested in
the doings of his profession. Individually he was a fine
technician and most careful in his work. Our society has
met with a great loss but has in his memory a great example.

SURF VIEW AT BALANCE ROCK ON THE SHORE PATH
Statement and Announcement, 1921
Is there a dentist in our society who does not want to be
right up to the minute in the methods he uses in his practice?
Your committee has endeavored to bring to your attention
some of the newest and most practical phases of dentistry
brought out by men of high standing. To the men who
are intent upon gathering valuable information this meeting
will be of great interest.
This is the first time in many years that we have actually
been invited to hold our meetings in a resort of the fame which
Bar Harbor enjoys. The Bar Harbor Board of Trade
has done its utmost to make our meeting a success and has
promised us every possible assistance in carrying out our
program. Particularly they will be pleased to entertain
in the sight-seeing and to assist in the outdoor enjoyments.
They want us to get a proper impression of one of the
greatest summer resorts in the country. If you want to
see something special or to go to some particular spot or
to play golf you will be looked after along your line, one
of the features of the meeting will be the entertainment.
The Maine Dental Society has been noted in the past
for having its meetings crowded with great essays, the
majority of which have been printed in the magazines a
few months later. Be with us, ask your questions, see the
slides, get into contact with the clinicians, look carefully
at the exhibits, in short become a real factor in the doings
of the society.
Every ethical practioner in the state and out is cordially
invited to attend this meeting. The Maine Dental Society
Meeting will be of the greatest interest this year and you
should be proud to be among us.

MAINE DENTAL SOCIETY
Notice to Members of the Society
Your President, Dr. E. A. Sheehy, urgently requests that the members and
dentists present be in their seats or in the clinic room on time. Your committee
has a very fine and complete program to carry out and a delay will disturb and
hurry the speakers. Pe present at the business meeting the first day so that all
matters of business may be taken care of before the essays come before the meet-
ing. Please take an interest in the doings of your committees, they are working
hard for the society. Be a regular fellow and attend the meeting from beginning
to end.
Secretary's Notice
Any change in address or other change in the list of members should be given
to the secretary, Dr. B. C. Grafam, so that the list is always correct. Those
men who have not paid their dues should remember that they will not receive
the National Magazine and are not members of the National Association until
they liquidate. Ethical dentists who wish to present their names for membership
in the society will be furnished application blanks upon request.

mittee extends to you all their sincere thanks for your co-operation towards making
our meetings a success year after year. You will be treated as members of the

CHARACTER
Is that indefinable quality which makes a
denture a harmonious part of the wear-
er's individuality; the lack of which makes
just a "set of false teeth."
Trubyte Teeth
alone, of all artificial teeth, possess this
inestimable quality, Character.
With
them alone can the dentist create a den-
ture which will lose itself in its natural
blending with the facial characteristics
of the wearer.
The square, Tapering and Ovoid Forms of Trubyte
Teeth, their natural colors, shaded in the set, and their
graded sizes make this Harmony between face and
tooth possible.
