RE: Film of Governort Brewster's Ascent of Mt. Katahdin
Brewster was a graduate of Bowdoin College and his papers I believe are there. I would also try the Maine
Historical Society in Portland. They have the photograph collection of the Portland Press Herald which was
also owned by the Gannetts and may have a copy of the film. I would also suggest getting in touch with Earle
Shettleworth Director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. He has a vast knowlege of where stuff
is. His number is 207-287-2132. Good luck. Sincerely Anthony Douin Records Technician II Maine State
Archives.

Subject: Film of Governort Brewster's Ascent of Mt. Katahdin
Dear Mr. Douin:
A film was produced by Pathe News in July 1925--as reported extensively in the Kennebec Daily
Journal--of Governor Ralph Brewster's climb of Mt. Katahdin with his wife and Acadia National Park
Superintendent George B. Dorr.
Since I'm three years into a archival-based biography of Mr. Dorr, I contacted Pathe Films, the
National Archives, the National Park Service Historical Collection, Northeast Historic Films, and the
Folger Library with no success in locating this documentary. It may be that it has not survived but the
daily articles in the Kennebec Journal claim that this film would be distributed widely as a promotional
effort to celebrate the natural wonders of Maine. Could you offer any suggestions-public libraries or
historical societies perhaps--of locations for this (extant?) film.
Thanks for this professional courtesy.
