Friends of Hitty

Volume I
January 1995
Issue One
Welcome to the First Friends of Hitty Newsletter!
The response to my proposal for a Hitty Newsletter has been overwhelming! As announced,
the purpose of the newsletter is to provide a forum for the dissemination of information and material
on Hitty herself, Rachel Field, Dorothy Lathrop and the artists who create Hittys. Every subscriber
is encouraged to share items they have crafted or created for Hitty and directions for making them
as
well as any personal anecdotes or stories. This is YOUR newsletter and I am hopeful that each and
every one of you will make contributions. Please feel free to send in any and all material which you
would like to see in the newsletter. Photographs are also welcome and we will try to use some in
every issue.
As a quarterly newsletter, issues are scheduled to be sent out in January, April, July and
October. The following features are tentatively planned:
MEET A HITTY ARTIST: Through the questionnaire that subscribers have filled
out and returned, the names of 13 Hitty artists were noted. Feature write-ups about
each of these artists will be solicited.
A HITTY RETROSPECTIVE: Any original articles or any kind of out-of-print or
previously published material on Hitty, Rachel Field and Dorothy Lathrop as well as
anything related to Hitty will be reprinted.
HITTY'S BAZAAR: A Fair for the Sale of Accessories for Hitty. Any Hitty-
related items for sale can be listed here without charge for subscribers, on a space-
available basis. Please provide a description as well as price (including shipping) and
your mailing address.
HITTY'S POTPOURRI: This will include readers' ideas for accessories for Hitty,
patterns for clothing for Hitty, directions for making things for her, suggestions for
displaying her - anything you feel might be of interest to our readers and/or which
you would like to share.
HITTY HAPPENINGS: Anything pertaining to Hitty such as news, events, shows,
displays, meetings or gatherings of anything pertaining to Hitty can be noted here. If
someone puts on a display at the local library or school, or organizes a meeting of
some mutual Hitty fans, please let us know about it.
OUR READERS WRITE: A chance to hear from and meet our members/subscrib
ers through comments, questions and answers. I am requesting that each person send
in a write-up about how they were first introduced to Hitty and the book, what influ
ence Hitty has had on them and anything else which might be of interest.
I
am very pleased to introduce my daughter, Lisa, who offered to design the newsletter and type up
the finished product, as my Creative Consultant. She has been a tremendous help and has done
an
excellent job. My thanks also to my good friend Chris Sweeney who did the layout work on the
photographic section. And my sincere thanks to all of you who have already sent in material to be
used. It is greatly appreciated and I hope everyone will continue to contribute.
