"IN MEMORIUM"
Where are all the worthy members
Islesford Historical Society
Of the Ladies' Aid today?
Little Cranberry Island
Some have gone to other places
Islesford, ME 04646
Some have passed from earth away.
Some have left the Aid forever
Never more with thee abide:
(Mary Moore Stanley) Dear Aunt May and Aunt Lucinda, (Stanley)
Over on the other side.
(Nettie Absenth Spurling
Nettie, Rosie Ladd, and Julia, (Julia Bunker Spurling - Chummie's mother)
Stanley)
Alfaretta and May-Ed:
(Stanley)
Happy band of merry workers
Now are numbered with the dead.
What good times we had together
In the days of long ago.
When we met to do our duty
Work crochet, and knit and sew.
I was not a worthy member,
But I did enjoy the treat;
For I loved to be among them
Help the work, to chat, and eat.
Ah. those dainty little suppers,
How we did those meals enjoy,
Sitting chatting, laughing, eating,
Bread and butter, cake and pie.
Oftentimes the men were with us.
They enjoyed the suppers too,
and would help the Aid with labcot,
Just the best that they could do.
And those good town-meeting dinners
How those men used to enjoy
Aunt Lucinda's tea and coffee,
with baked beans, brown bread and pie.
They have taken in new members,
Thus to help along the work,
And to take the place of others,
Who from duty did not shirk,
There are only a few old members
Emma, Frank and sister Flo,
(Frank & Flora Stanley)
(Sadie Bunker Swenson)
Dear Aunt Dell, and Mamie Birlin,
(Mary-Frances Spurling)
(Rosinda Stanley Wedge)
Sadie, Rose and Mrs. Rowe. (Sasha Rowe)
I will send the enclosed poem
To each member old and new
To remind them of their duty,
And the work they have in view.
Dear old Aid, and worthy members,
May you still enjoy your task;
May you have our Father's blessing
Tis the best that one can ask.
Sincerely, Aunt Min
