Spurling, Julia Marie (Bunker)

Julia Bunker was born on Great Cranberry Island in 1850. Her parents were Warren Bunker and Sydney Bunker (Hamor). She lived her entire life on the island, in the house on Cranberry Road owned in 2025 by Cameron and Nancy Wood. She died in 1919 on Great Cranberry.

She married Warren Spurling in 1869. He died in 1887. They had five children: Bert (1870), Arthur (Chummy) (1873), Alta (1876), Ernest (1880), Elwood (1882). After her husband died, she operated a small rooming house and store within the house (376 Cranberry Road). Her property also encompassed a large farm which covered both sides of the Cranberry Road and stretched from the Heath to the Pool.

Her children included successful businessmen, boatbuilders, fishermen, and daughter Alta who raised six children who later became prominent citizens of both Great Cranberry and Islesford.
