My dear Sir: I have your letter of March 10, and am not disposed to take precipitate action on this mat- ter of opening new roads in Lafayette Park, That part of the proposed road over which the Government has control is a very few miles as compared with the balance, but presume without that connecting link, the other roads would not be built. I do not like to appear as an obstruction- ist; neither do I want to encourage highways likely to meet with the objections of so many influential people. I have about despaired getting any una- nimity of action from those interested in Lafayette National Park, on proposed changes.
