ROBERTS 1955-1958 10 THE REPORT OF THE COMMODORE 1960 The 1960 season was in every way a most successful year for The Northeast Harbor Fleet. The number of boats racing surpassed that of the previous three years for the Fourth of July, July, August, and Labor Day Series. The sailing class had the second largest number of participants on record, and the Junior membership was well over any previous year, boosting our total membership to an all time high. The Family membership has also been well accepted and has in- creased substantially each year. Financially we are currently in good shape, maintaining a fair balance of income over expenditures. The most significant event of the year took place at the Annual Meeting when the portrait of Jim Ducey was hung in the Fleet Headquarters. As I said at that time, the Ducey family and those of us who made the arrangements, are well pleased with the portrait and we hope that the rest of the membership will be also. I think that we were extremely fortunate in having Mr. Dwight Shepler produce such a wonderful likeness under such adverse circumstances. The Memorial Fund has now reached over $12,000.00 and this will be our first year when the income will be available for use. I must now record with the greatest sadness the death of Rear Commodore Henry B. Coxe, Jr. on January 19, 1961. His enthusiasm will be missed by all of us, and his wise council especially by me. Mr. David Rockefeller was elected 11 by the Executive Committee to serve the unexpired term and has kindly agreed to do so. Finally, speaking for all the Fleet membership, I wish to thank all those who worked SO hard to make our summer sailing successful and happy. Most especially our indispen- sible Phil Caughey, who carried on under difficult circum- stances, having lost Mrs. Caughey in the spring of last year; John Kelly, who will be with us again this year; Katie Ducey, whose job will be taken over by her sister Ethel; and George Carey, who so nobly substituted for Mel Hodder, who will also be back again this season. Our examination was made in accord- ance with generally accepted auditing standards, and accord- ingly included such tests of the accounting records and such other auditing procedures as we considered necessary in the circumstances. Plant and equipment accounts are carried on the books without deduction for depreciation. They do not include all plant and equipment assets, certain expenditures for such assets having been charged off against capital expenditure fund or current income. The investment in Clifton Dock Corporation is carried on the books at nominal value. In our opinion, the accompanying balance sheet and state- ment of income, expense and capital, subject to the qualifi- cations in the preceding paragraph, present fairly the finan- cial position of The Northeast Harbor Fleet at December 31, 1960, and the results of its operations for the year then ended, in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles applied on a basis consistent with that of the preceding year.
