Letter to Louisa Kennedy from Mike Kennedy, Oct 1, 1979
10/1
Dearest Wee
Just a quick note to catch someone
who can carry it back to the US.
Just sent off a rat of telegrams
based on my first contacts. Something
ominous seems to be in the banking air.
A Bank President told our senior local
that he couldn't receive me, or
any other Embassy official (ie from any Embassy) I hope
that this doesn't spread too far. It
would make my life very difficult
indeed.
I have moved into my new
apartment. Very comfortable. My maid
starts on Saturday. Really, how
much has left for me by the
previous occupant. Practically like
moving into a "house-sitting"
situation. Haven't had no buy any
food, yet. Don't worry. I can live
simply here for very little indeed. The
maid, to example, will be $5 a
day, 2 days a week. There are 2
rates for the rial, and the unofficial
(though perfectly legal) one is very
manageable.
I miss you very much, but
am comforted by the thought that you
are back in the house, and that
our lives are getting reorganized. I
wrote to Duncan, by pouch, last
week, I wonder how long in will
take him to get my my letter.
On balance, you are quite
right not to plan to come out,
especially it your real estate is
opening up. These 3 months, will go
by very quickly
M
