My Dearest Boof - February 6. Several days have slipped by since I could sit down and write you. Events overtake me on every front. Mum & Pop have been here this week to meet other families and the meetings have been wonderful for all. Duncan and a pal sprent 4 days here, too, on school winter break [[?]] [[?]] get through and I sympathize with them as I still remember it well myself - Speaking of schools, I am going out to Madeira next work to give a talk. When I next go to New York I shall be speaking at Brearley, too. The subject fascinates everyone. We are so proud of you. I cannot stress this enough. I gather they have informed you about The Iranian Presidential Elections I don't know much about any of the candidates except Mr. Bani Sadr and since he has been elected he is the important one to know about. I like what he stands for and I think he will be a good President who will see justice done for at all elements in IRANIAN affairs. -2- Let us hope so. It is very important for Iran that the hostages be freed as soon as possible. The longer you are in captivity the less the world can accept anything that Iran wants known. There is no other way to explain this. Each day that goes by isolates them further even (Sentence has cut off due to folding of the paper while photo copying.) who otherwise understand the [[?]] Iranians are reacting to - THEIR point is fully recognized but the way in which they have chosen to exploit Diplomats is not acceptable to a world that needs a Diplomatic dialogue in the future for all countries - You speak kindly of your guards. I am thankful for That as a life wife and a mother of men - Sometimes I think I would like to come to Iran and talk with them myself. I understand the ideals of the young. Indeed, I feel I have many of the same ones myself. But it is difficult to feel sympathetic to them totally from here when I realize that they, -3- unbelievably, continue to deny all of you letters from home. Receiving letters from me dated November 13-15 - in January is unacceptable !! This falls below even prisoner of war camps in Korea + Viet Nam and it does not imply kindness. This kind of cruelty against innocent ideals of the captors. I hate to say This but it is true. I hope they will give you this letter and I hope they will discuss it with you. You are a friend to Them in So many ways, having loved their world for so many years - as have we both. Any- way, write and tell me if you receive This letter.
