Letter to Louisa Kennedy from Mike Kennedy, Jan 8, 1980
Tuesday, January 8 1980
Dearest Wee
Since I last wrote to you, I have received, and
answered, letter from Mark and Phil. Also received very nice
letters from Mais and Pop, which I have not yet answered.
All these where dated November 13-16. Delivery of more
recent letters has been held up, I suspect because they feel
that they have to read them all, and lack the time.
Obviously I have no news, except that my health,
mental as well as physical is good. We are getting a
little more exercise, in an adjacent room, and were allowed
outride day before Yesterday. Aside from the absence of
mail, a major irritation is the absence of a razor. I
keep reminding them. One safety razor was produced, with
a blade totally smoothed, and no good. Little things in
this situation loom very large. All in all, however, my
spirits are remarkably good.
I am sure that you are very busy . If you
have the time, you may want to check on the
following salary and allowance details with the Department. I
would go to Sheldon Krys [sic], NEA/EX, but I'm sure
that by how you have many contacts.
1) 25 percent salary differential. Is that being reflected
in my pay check? I became entitled to it after 42
days of service here, and it would be retroactive to September
19. A form (SF 1290 ?) was sent in by the post
2) Per Diem. $80 a day, of which 40 is deduced
to to lodging in government quarters They advanced me about
2/3 of it ( I believe the net amount) The $40 should not
be deduced after November 4. Moreover, my orders should
be amended to carry me forward after The expected date
of my return (December 21), So that I can have the
full amount until the limit of 120 days, of date of my
return whichever comes fist.
3) Moving Expenses: I Trust that that has been taken
care of. A copy of the voucher should be in my study.
Anyway, fight the good fight, my sweet, in everything
you do. Mais' and Pop's letter were full if praise,
well deserved, I'm sure. Tell Andrew and Dunc that if
they have written, I will reply as soon as I have
their letters. I miss you all, and love you very much.
