20 December 1979 Dear Mars Kennedy, I saw your interview with Barbara Walters on the ABC evening news, Wednesday, 12 December 1979. I must tell you that I was deeply impressed with your message. You succinctly and concisely summarized how so many real Americans feel about this nation - what it stands for - and what it takes to keep it the world's best. It was especially gratifying to hear someone say, in a straightforward and positive manner, that many people are trained and prepared for the sacrifices necessary to keep this nation free - and that they willingly accept that responsibility. I wish my words were as perfect for the occasion as yours. They are not. But I wanted you to know that many other Americans admire your courage, your attitude, and your confidence in this country.
