Dear Louisa, I am enclosing a copy of the covering letter I have just sent the Iranian Embassy together with a flood of letters from our faculty and students. Your mother-in-law telephoned last Friday to suggest that such letters might be helpful now, and our students have responded with great relief, since they- like all the rest of us- have been wondering for weeks what constructive action we could take to end this terrible crisis without resorting to mindless mob demonstrations of the sort that created it. Needless to say, I have been thinking of you and of Mike ever since the news appeared. Barbara Merrill Huggins, who saw you on television, tells me you were absolutely magnificent.
