Santiago, December 4, 1979 Dear Luisa, It is impossible to say exactly what one feels in general terms down here re what is going on at your Embassy in Iran. You know how much I love the U.S. and how grateful I am at all your country has given me and my sons. But to know that Mike is there imprisoned is simply too painful for words. You have been in my thoughts every minute since I learnt last week that he was going through the ordeal. And, of course, how terrible it must be for you. Needless to ask you how you are, but I would very much like to know or help in any way I can if at all possible. I am traveling to Miami on the 21st to spend Xmas with my sons, and will call you from there.
