College of the Atlantic placed first on Princeton’s Review of the top 50 Green Colleges in the country. Rankings are based on assessments of waste, renewable energy, local and sustainable food sourcing, and academics focused on ‘green’ topics. As of 2025, the college still holds the first spot on the Princeton rankings, thanks to initiatives like the Cox protectorate, COA’s two organic farms, senior projects and policies focused on sustainability, the Fund for Maine Islands, the Community Energy Center and other programs. Placing at the top of the Princeton Review list is a big honor for the college, and acknowledgement of all the hard work that has been done by students, staff and community members. However, there is always more to do.
