COA approved to grant public school teaching certification through Teacher Education Program.

In 1978, Peter Corcoran starts the Teacher Education program, allowing COA students to work towards a classroom teaching certification. The Maine State Board of Education approved COA’s ability to grant this certification for public school teaching in February of the same year. Today, COA students still enjoy the ability to achieve certification through the Educational Studies program. Graduates of this program are able to bring what they have learned of human ecology, problem based learning and interdisciplinary education beyond COA’s classrooms and into public schools; inspiring a spirit of curiosity and collaboration in their students.
