The first meeting of the Society for Human Ecology (SHE) was held in Maryland.

The first Society for Human Ecology (SHE) meeting was held at the University of Maryland. SHE, according to its website, is “an international interdisciplinary professional society that promotes the use of an ecological perspective in research, education, and application.” Rich Borden, COA’s academic dean, was elected as the society president, placing COA at the center of an international conversation about human ecology in education and academics. Today, COA’s faculty are still closely involved with the society and its semi-annual Human Ecology Review.
