Sardine Factory at Southwest Harbor; First Hydraulic Pumping of Herring

Paul Stubing indicated that this photograph shows the first hydraulic pumping of herring from weir to carrier; this method was used by the sardine factory in Southwest Harbor. The caption on the back reads, "Unloading Sardine Herring by Suction Method". This picture provides a close.up view of the herring being suctioned into the hold. There are two people, one holding the pipe or hose and the other standing off to the right of the picture.
