Minutes of the 37th Annual Meeting of the Mount Desert Island Historical Society, Somesville Parish House, August 8, 1968. The Meeting was called to order at 8 p.m. by the vice-presid- ent of the Society, Crahman McGiffert, the president Virginia Sanderson having recently resigned. The minutes of the last annual meeting of the Society were read by Nelson Leland, in the absence of the Secretary, Nathan Preston, who was unable to be present at the beginning of the meeting. Report accepted. The Treasurer, Nelson Leland, gave the Treasurer's Report which was accepted. He reported 109 members. The chairman reviewed the activities of the year centering around two subjects: the Moserm, for which Ruby Higgins is arrang- ing custodians during the present summer, a new sign has been con- tributed by the Job Corps, flower box installed, cleaning arranged by Avis Lethiecq; and the Parking Lot, for which Robert Patterson, representing the VIS, has provided a landscaping plan which, it is hoped, will be ready for planting in late September or next spring and which will require smoothing, packing gravel and rearrangement of some rocks. An estimate has been sought from Billings and Hamblen, Contractors. The members of the Society and guests next stood for a few moments in memory and honor of Mrs. Marjory Havward, a long-time devoted and imaginative member and officer of the Society, whose death occurred since the last annual meeting.
