Eliot, Vice-President, V.T.S. 25 Reservoir St., Cambridge, Mass. Dear Sir: Toward the last of September and early October I had several conferences with Mr. Loren E. Kimbell, concerning the manage- ment for next summer of the Clifton House dock, the provision of additional parking space adjacent to it and a definite understanding concerning the nearby beach which our Society agreed to cover with sand if leased to us for ten years at a nominal rate. In previous discussions with him there had been suggestion of the Village Improve- ment Society renting and managing the Clifton House dock. It seemed to me that this would involve the Society in an actual business which we were not prepared even to supervise efficiently, much less to manage ourselves. It would put the Society in competition with the Rock End Dock management and with others who had boats to rent. It might have involved a substantial outlay of money. Mr. Kimball now agrees to install for next summer a new management at the Clifton House dock and to put a new flooring on the floats. He tells me that he has secured on of the popular boat ceptains to manage it and that this man has been assured the cooperation of A number of owners of sall and motor boats for hire, so that there will be ample facilities at the dock for renting bonts as well 40 improved facilities for servicing them with naval supplies.
