Great Hill from Cleftstone Road Acadia National Park, Hancock County, ME
Route begins along long driveway off of Cleftstone Road, past stone foundation, remnants of a mansion lost in 1947 fire. Route crosses plank bridge to cross side ditch then travels along raised tread, possibly an old drive, then turns into simple path through open woods, heading northwest. Very old stacked cairn still evident on an exposed ledge, otherwise route is lost. Path can be followed across park motor road. A lightly trodden path continues up the side of Great Hill, with cairns leading to the summit, passing large erratic boulders. Excellent views of Bar Harbor and mountains. Route was heavily impacted by 1947 fire and fell into disuse. MB
