A. Driving a tractor.

A. Five-thirty.

A. Three-thirty.

A. Greasing up the tractor.

Q. Where were you in relation with the gas tank?
A. Right along side of the greasing camp. Outside,

No we were about two hundred feet from it.

What first attracted your attention to the gas tank?
A. We heard the planks on the bridge rattling as
someone was approaching. We went down to see who it
was. Got there and saw three fellows getting out of
a Chrysler touring car. Had Maine plates, the first
three numbers were 114, think other three were 589.
Q. Was the top down?
A. No. It was a five passenger touring car.
Q. With three fellows?
A.
Yes.
Q. Where was the car stopped?
A.
Just a little ahead of the tank.
I was behind bushes
and lumber pile so couldn't see plates. Only way I could
see plates was when they started up.
Q. Did they get out of the car?
A. Yes. They were fooling with the tank. All three of
them were looking over the tank.
Q. Did they touch it?
A. They were just trying to pull the covers off,
Q. Which one was trying to pull them off?
A.
All three of them. They were taking hold of the
the little knobs to lift the covers.
Q. How far away were you?
A. Less than a hundred feet.
Q. Did you approach them?
A. No they didn't see us. They saw they couldn't get
into it and moved off. They had a rubber tube and
tried to syphon gas from top connection.

A. Between ten and twenty after five.

A. I think so.
Q. Did you recognize any of them?
A. I recognized one, Dr. Mitchell's boy, think his name
is Billy. I could recognize one other.

because they were around the corner. He approached with
me and then he went one way and I went the other. I got
behind the lumber pile.
