Dear Ron,

Member Information
Thanks so much for your note and it is a treat to hear from you again.

I do indeed recall your research on George Dorr and I am delighted that we can
be of help. I am also happy that Wendy made the effort to get back to you in a
very quick fashion and as you note, on a holiday too.
Ron, when you make it to the big town =) give me a buzz and if I am here I'd
love to say hello.
Thanks for the kind words and wishes too much appreciated.
Cheers,
Steve

You may recall me from several years ago when Ed Daniels and I met with you
to support the arrangement between Shapiro Library and Curtis Library to
support the Brunswick naval station.
I wanted to pass along the email from Wendy Miller. She responded to my
Sunday email in less than 18 hours on a holiday weekend, far exceeding my
expectations.
Two years ago I retired and am now completing the first biography of Acadia
National Park founder George Bucknam Dorr, a work in progress for the last
eight years. I'll be on Mount Desert Island next week and stop at the PPL
Friday afternoon to track down the editorial in question.
I've heard from Charles Getchell and others about the impressive work you've
done in Portland. Best of luck.

hello --
We do indeed have microfilm for Portland newspapers, including the
Portland Sunday telegram for February 1942. Our microfiche files and
reader/printers are located on the 1st floor (lower level) of the library in
the Periodicals/Public Computing Area. You will enter the library at
our 2nd floor main entrance on Congress Street. There you will find
elevators and stairs for easy access to other floors. The
Periodicals/PC Area is located directly across from the elevator/stairs
lobby at the 1st floor level.
There are several parking garages within easy walking distance of the
library. The Elm Street garage, directly across the street from the
library, offers a first hour free parking option.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
address

I am a recently retired academic library director who is trying to trace a
Street,
book review (of George B. Dorr's The Story of Acadia National Park) in
the Portland Sunday Telegraph during February 1942.
Your catalog record appears to indicate that you have this on
microfilm. Is that correct? However, I cannot determine from your site
list where the microfilom and the reader/printers are located in your
library which I hope to visit the week of September 8th. Some

Re: Access to Portland Room
The Portland Room is open all hours that the library is open. You may wish to call them directly at
207-871-1747 to verify the availability of the book. We were closed Monday in observance of Martin
Luther King Day SO that may be why you were unable to reach us. Our normal hours are:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9-6

have tried to borrow a title through ILL that is part of your collections (i.e. The Somerset Club,
1851-1951).
We have been told that this title is not loaned.
It is my intention to visit your library to make use of this title but when I tried to call to find out
whether there were limited access hours, no one answered repeatedly.
Can this volume be secured by Reference Staff when the Portland Room is not avaialable to the
public?
Thank you.
