Welcome to the Rodick genealogy.
Family units are arranged alphabetically by the first name of the father (or single-parent mother). Links are provided
to enable you to move up and down each lineage. To follow a line back in time (ancestors), click on the underlined portion of "(son of or "(dau. of )" beneath the
name of the person you want to trace back. To follow a line forward in time (descendants), click on the name of the person whose offspring you want to see. A plus sign
(+) following a name means that that person had one or more children, but that family group has not been added to this web page. A link to documentation and notes,
when available, is given below each family.
All
information, especially source material, for inclusion in this web page should be sent to museum@mdihistory.org or mailed to "Mount Desert Island Genealogy;
Mount Desert Island Historical Society; P. O. Box 653; Mount Desert, ME 04660". And, of course, please report all errors.

According to George E. Street in the 1926 edition of Mount Desert: A History, edited by Samuel A. Eliot,
"Daniel Rodick married Betty Hamor at Harpswell in 1764 and five years later they came to Frenchman's Bay and were the ancestors of the
strong and influential Rodick family at Bar Harbor. They settled near the shore on the lot part of which is now owned and occupied by his
grandson, John A. Rodick. (pages 153-154)
Daniel Rodick's family was the sole Rodick family in the first decennial census (1790) of the town of Mount Desert, the only town on Mount Desert
Island at that time. By 1800, there were two Rodick families in the then recently formed town of Eden (now Bar Harbor): one "headed" by the Daniel of
1790 and one by David Rodick (Daniel and Betty (Hamor) Rodick's third son). Their first son (Daniel) never married, and their second one (James)
lived in Harpswell. The same families of Daniel and David were also reported in the 1810 census of Eden. In 1820, there were three Rodick families in
Eden: one headed by John (Daniel and Betty's fourth son), one by David, and one by a Daniel, but not the Daniel of 1790-1810. Daniel in this 1820
family was the only male in the household and was 16-26 years of age. So, by 1820, the elder Daniel had likely died, and this young Daniel was
probably David's son, born 1798 and, therefore, 22 years old, close to the census report. These three families-David's, John's, and Daniel's-were the
only Rodicks in 1830 and 1840. See below for a table showing these families. Estimated ages are given in brackets.
