HANCOCK, 55......To the Selectment or Assessors of the Town of branbury John in the County
of Hancock,
GREETING.
WHEREAS the Legislature, at their last session, resolved that the sum of
Six Thousand
dollars should be raised on the
several towns and plantations within the said County, according to the directions of the
law, for defraying the usual necessary charges of the County, and whereas the Court of
County Commissioners holden at Castine in and for the County of Hancock, on the last
Tuesday of April :
ORDERED, that the Clerk of the said County should forthwith
send out Warrants for assessing the several towns' and plantations' proportion therefor, as
July next a the residence by the first day of b clober
the law directs, and for paying in the same : one half by the first any of
These are therefore, in the name of the State of Maine,
&
to will and require you, to assess the sum of
97.07 Ninety Seven dollar a Seven Centy
upon the inhabitants of the Town of each his due and
equal
proportion thereof, as near as may be, according to the rule for defraying the State Charge ;
being the said Town
proportion for the County tax and rate above
mentioned. And you are to make a true and perfect list or lists of the names of the persons
on whom you assess the aforesaid sums: which list or lists, so perfected, and signed by
yourselves (or the major part of you,) you are to commit to the Collector, Constable, or
Constables of your said town requiring them respectively to levy and collect the said
sum of mining fever dollars and Seven cents
on inhabitants and to same unto

Esquire, Treasurer of said County of Hancock, on or before the first dayrof. October next
ensuing. Hereof, fail not of making return of the names of the person or persons to whom
you commit the aforesaid list or lists as soon as may be, after you have committed the same.
