Native American sweetgrass basket and lid
Basket and lid, flat bottom, made of sweetgrass and green flat elements; small woven ring handle has broken off from lid. (Miniature basket 2000.294.2902 was inside this basket 2013.) This miniature is one of several basketry items collected by Mary E. Shaw (Mrs. Norman Shaw) ca. 1980-2000, who ran the Dancing Deer gift shop in Bar Harbor. She eventually sold them to Wini Smart's daughter, Gail Cleveland, (per Mrs. Shaw visit to GCIHS 9/25/14).
