New Museum gets 100K in grants CRANBERRY ISLES - -The Great Cranberry Island Historical Society received two significant grants this year for the restoration of Cranberry House - the future home of the Historical Museum, Multimedia Center, and a new Cultural Center. The historic old building, orig- inally built as a "mealing house" for summer Rusticators, was bought and moved to a new site in 2004, and refurbishment has been slowly proceeding since then. In February the society received a $25,000 grant from Fund For Commonweal, a foun- dation belonging to a local resi- dent. This enabled work to begin on the summer's building proj- ects. Now, this month, another grant of $80,000 from Louise Marr, of Fort Myers, Florida will accelerate the work into high gear. The gift was given in mem- ory of her family who are related to the Prebles, who were out- standing figures in the history of Great Cranberry Island.
