Boatyard Breathes Life Back into Shangri La By Lauren Simmons "I obs don't get better than this. This is what boat builders dream about," said Ed Gray, co-owner of Newman and Gray Boatyard, on his contract to refurbish the 1958 Bunker and Ellis run- about, Shangri La. The 24-foot boat had fallen into disrepair after sitting in a storage building for 15 years. A change of ownership brought the boat's needs back into the sunlight and Shangri La took its place among the line-up in Gray's shop on Great Cranberry Island. "The boat was not com- pletely deteriorated but it was approximately 50 years old. It was time for a re- build," Gray said. In fact, the boat never journeyed far from home. Raymond Bunker, one of the original builders, also hailed from Great Cranber- ry Island. "They were just two men working out of a shed," Gray said.
