Planting Trees in the Ash: Identifying Restoration Potential in the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Burn Scar
This project examines post-wildfire restoration potential within the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon burn scar in northern New Mexico. Using GIS analysis, the project visualizes burn severity, landscape damage, and environmental variables to model areas with high potential for forest regeneration. By contextualizing wildfire as both a destructive and regenerative ecological force, the project highlights where restoration efforts such as tree planting may be most effective following one of the largest wildfires in New Mexico’s history. This project is in ESRI GIS Story Map format.
