Not Your Average Dog: Coyote Habitat on Mount Desert Island

This project examines coyote habitat and movement on Mount Desert Island using GIS analysis. By modeling habitat suitability for key prey species such as deer, snowshoe hare, and squirrels, and incorporating landscape features like blueberry barrens, transportation corridors, and reported coyote sightings, the project explores how coyotes navigate and adapt to the island’s ecosystems. The work highlights the relative lack of research on coyotes in the region despite their long-standing presence and ecological significance. This project is in ESRI GIS Story Map format.
