South Hampton Press Letter to the Editor, Feb 7, 1980

Article begins with a letter from Louisa Kennedy's father Goodhue Livington saying he thinks a declassified cable sent to the US. State Department from the US Embassy in Parsis might be of interest to readers. He continues the family had not heard from Mike until just before Christmas when they recieved a depressing letter saying he did not expect to return, however more recent letters are more upbeat and tell of living conditions. The full text of the cable is included by the editor. The cable discussed thre January 8 French TV program 'Dossiers De L'Ecran' which is a panel discussion show. The panel included Louisa Kennedy, the daughter of Bani Sadr (Iranian student), former US. Ambassador Robert Neumann, and several left wing lawyers. During the show the Iranian Student engaged on Anti-American diatribes and the lawyers claimed the whole world is held hostage by the United States. Louisa Kennedy viewers found to be very corageous and noble. She said the United States should not give into blackmail regardless of what happens to her husband.  Commentary by French newspapers were supportive of of Kennedy and aghast at the Iranian Student. Le Mode points out this hostage taking was backed by the Iranian government. The feeling of the US Embassy is to disuade persons from doing any futrure 'Dossiers De L'Ecran' because of potential impacts on Mission policy.

There is also a hand written note at the bottom of the page: Mr. A.B. Wheeler- Alex for you and Masie if she hasn't seen the Paris Cabe. AWP
