This building served as the Somesville School from 1903 to 1943, at which time Somesville students were sent to schools in Northeast Harbor. Virginia Somes Sanderson wrote, "From 1907 to 1943, the average graduating class was five students, the largest, eleven."
In 1947 the building served as a staging area for University of Maine Forestry students who had come to fight the great fire. School reunions of Somesville High School continued to be held into the 1970s. The school house was converted to condominiums in 1980, yet the building retains, as of 2012 [2025], its external appearance as a school house.
