USS <em>Isabel</em>

Isabel was built in 1917 by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, as a yacht for automobile manufacturer John North Willys of Toledo, Ohio. The vessel was acquired by the Navy before completion, converted to use as a “destroyer leader” and given the identification number S.P. 521. The original name was retained. It was commissioned at the Boston Navy Yard on 28 December 1917, Lt. Cmdr. Harry E. Shoemaker in command. Isabel was decommissioned on 11 February 1946 and stricken from the Navy list on 26 February. The vessel was scrapped on 25 March 1946.
