In 2000, COA received its first 8 incoming students from the Davis United World College Scholars Program. Established by Shelby and Gale Davis, the Scholars Program provided scholarships to students from 10 United World Colleges to attend universities in the United States; improving access to higher education and encouraging cultural exchange of ideas and perspectives. Today, the scholarship program applies to all 18 of the United World Colleges, allowing COA to enroll dozens of UWC students each year. About 25% of COA student body are international students, many of whom are part of the Davis United World Colleges Scholars Program. Having such a large international student body is a privilege and an honor, and has become an integral part of the college’s character. COA strives to be a place where bold new ideas thrive in diversity, and hosting a multitude of perspectives and life experiences undoubtedly enriches the kinds of conversations, revelations and connections that COA is able to foster.
