Arlington (Town of), Middlesex County, MA
Town of Arlington, MA. Located 6 mi NW of Boston (US-T121). Settled about 1630, incorporated as the town of WestCambridge in 1807. Called West Cambridge because it was the western part of town. Also known locally as Menotomy. Renamed Arlington in 1867 for Arlington, Virginia, through the efforts of an influential citizen, the Honorable Joseph S. Potter, who came from Arlington, VA (MA-T1/p6).
