Andover (Town of), Essex County, MA
Town of Andover, MA. Located 13 mi E of Lowell (US-T121). Named for Andover in Hampshire, England, the home of many of the early settlers. Established from common land called Cochicawick. Settled in 1642 and incorporated as a town in 1646 (MA-T1/p6). Andover is probably derived from Ande-ofer (on the banks of the Ande) (US-T121/Steele).
