HANCOCK COUNTY MARRIAGES
Alice MacDonald Long
These marriage records are to be found in Box 2504-0101 at
the
Maine State Archives. File folders are arranged
alphabetically by town, including some towns no longer in Hancock
County, such as Vinalhaven. Few counties in the state of Maine
have the original marriage returns which in this case were sent
by the town clerks to the Judicial Court of Hancock County.
Bound volumes of these marriages are kept in the Hancock County
Commissioners Office in Ellsworth beginning ca. 1827. Beginning
in 1892 the state required that town clerks send all vital
records directly to Augusta. The following records were typed
from photocopies of the original papers at the Maine State
Archives. Additional towns in Hancock County will be published
in future issues of the Maine Seine.
