Great Britain is an island in the North Atlantic Ocean off the coast of continental Europe, the largest of the British Isles. It is composed of England, Scotland, and Wales. Great Britain also may refer to the Kingdom of Great Britain, a sovereign state from 1707 to 1800 that governed the island and encompassed the territories of all three modern countries.
