THE GEORGE EDWIN KIRK POST NO. 25
THE AMERICAN LEGION
ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this organization shall be the "George
Edwin Kirk Post No. 25, The American Legion," and
its location shall be at Bar Harbor, Hancock County,
Maine.
ARTICLE II. OBJECTS
The purposes of this organization are to act as a
Post of The American Legion under the national and
departmental rules and regulations of that
organization, as amended and to be amended, and as
such to take and hold by purchase, sale, lease, gift,
devise or bequest, real and personal property; to
purchase, sell, lease and exchange real and personal
estate necessary for the conduct of said Post, and to
perform all acts necessary or incident to the above
named purposes and necessary and incident thereto
to carry out the aims and objects of The American
Legion.
ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. ELIGIBILITY:
"A. Any person shall be eligible for membership
in the George Edwin Kirk Post No. 25 who was a
member of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast
Guard, or Air Force of the United States and assigned
to active duty at some time during any of the
following periods: April 6, 1917, to November 11,
1918; December 7, 1941, to September 2, 1945; June
25, 1950, to July 27, 1953; August 5, 1964, to the
date of cessation of hostilities as determined by the

THE AMERICAN LEGION
ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this organization shall be the "George
Edwin Kirk Post No. 25, The American Legion," and

is dropped from the roll by constitutional mandate
and the membership forfeited.
ARTICLE IX. QUORUMS
Eleven members of the Post, including one
qualified to preside, shall constitute a quorum of the
Post, and a majority of the members of the Executive
Committee shall constitute a quorum of the
Executive Committee.
ARTICLE X. MISCELLANEOUS
Section 1. RESOLUTIONS. -
All resolutions
of State or National scope, presented to this Post by a
member or reported to this Post by a committee shall
merely embody the opinion of this Post on the
subject and copy of same shall be forwarded to
Department Headquarters for approval before any
publicity is given or action taken other than mere
passage by the Post.
Section 2. DELEGATES. -
Delegates
and
alternates to a Department Convention shall be
elected by ballot by the Post at a meeting held at
least twenty days prior to the date of such
convention.
ARTICLE XI. AMENDMENTS
These by-laws may be altered, amended or
repealed at any regular meeting of this organization,
by a three-fourths vote of those voting, provided:
that the proposed amendment has been previously
approved by the Executive Committee, and that a
written notice shall have been mailed to all members
at least a week in advance to the date when such
amendment is to be voted upon, notifying said
members that at such meeting a proposal to amend
the by-laws is to be voted upon.

PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION
OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
For God and country, we associate ourselves
together for the following purposes: To uphold and
defend the Constitution of the United States of
America; to maintain law and order; to foster and
perpetuate a one hundred per cent Americanism; to
preserve the memories and incidents of our
association in the Great War; to inculcate a sense of
individual obligation to the community, state and
nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes
and the masses; to make right the master of might; to
promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard
and transmit to posterity the principles of justice,
freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify
our comradeship by our devotion to mutual
helpfulness.
