Re: Henry Fairfield Osborn Query
Ronald - I was unable to locate any correspondence between Osborn and George Bucknam Dorr
within the Henry F. Osborn Papers.
The letter probably resides within another collection. I performed an on-line search of the National
Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections (NUCMC) at http://lcweb.loc.gov/coll/nucmc/nucmc.html
using the name of Dorr, George and it came back with a listing of several institutions which hold
collections on or about Dorr. Perhaps the letter resides within one of those collections.
I hope this is of some assistance and best of luck with your search.

am engaged in research for a biography of George Bucknam Dorr (1853-1944), a
contemporary of AMNH President Osborn, and founder and first superintendent of Acadia
National Park.
Mr. Osborn wrote a letter of support for road development in Lafayette National Park (later
Acadia) which was entered into a formal hearing before the Secretary of the Interior on March
26, 1924. I lack a copy of these remarks and would certainly value knowing whether they are in
your possession and if so whether this document might be copied for me. I came across this
reference at the Rockefeller Archive Center.
I am unable to discern from your online catalog whether you might have manuscript materials
relative to the relationship between Mr. Dorr and President Osborn.
I appreciate the professional courtesy of your effort to determine whether any documents
relative to my interests are in your holdings.
Thank you.

Dear Mark,
The photocopies arrived yesterday. None are images that I have seen elsewhere. Their
uniqueness is important as you might well recognize. I wonder whether your records have any
additional information on the photographers. I couldn't find anything in OCLC on photographer
A. Dockham nor any additional information on their historical connection with your museum.
Thank you!
