Letter from Barbara Brooks to Joe re: rug hooking
Copy of a handwritten letter from Barbara Brooks (mother of Carl Brooks) to 'dear Joe' August 10, 1999, speaking about history of rug hooking. "I had sent her article about Cranberry Island Rugs. I was born in 1912, so probably rug hooking well established with NY. I remember well that my grandmother used most of her spare time hooking rugs and I think she might have sold them as fast as she made them. The one that I remember best [illeg] through the years is already in my mind so I thought I would try doing a pattern of it the way I remembered it. I had several inches of dark border around the oblong shape. The color in the center was of more muted colors than I used. Also, the angled lines merge more even than I remembered. I think you can imagine how the perfect model looks if you imagine the zig zag lines to be done more regularly. I am glad you are having such a successful time with your bed and breakfast. It is hard work but fun, too. I think of the islands and people often with admiration and love, Barbara" From Bruce Komusin
